This morning we enjoy a tour along the picturesque Suffolk coast, starting with a visit to Southwold, complete with its famous painted beach huts and lovely pier, before continuing to the pretty village of Thorpeness, with its pretty mock Tudor houses and the fairytale 'House in the Clouds'. We enjoy free time here for lunch before continuing to Aldeburgh, which retains features from a bygone era.B, D
Today we enjoy a guided tour at the world-famous Anglo-Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo, the hauntingly beautiful 255-acre estate which is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. We discover the story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king, explore the award winning exhibition and the full-size reconstruction of the burial chamber (please note, the walk to the burial mounds is a 10-15 metre outdoor walk on flat ground, passengers who are less mobile can visit the exhibition, café and small shop). In the afternoon, we make our way to Waldringfield where we enjoy a two hour cruise with tea/coffee and scones along the River Deben, one of the most beautiful and scenic spots on the east coast.B, D
This morning, we enjoy a private guided tour of beautiful Glemham Hall. Conducted by the owner, Philip Hope-Cobbold, the tour takes in most of the Hall, from the depths of the cellars right up to the largely untouched servant quarters in the attics. We learn about its vast history and stunning architecture in between many a tall tale being told by our engaging host! Please note, the tour includes a few flights of stairs to the first and second floors. Those who wish to opt out of this part of the tour are welcome to sit and rest in the library. There is time to explore the stunning gardens before we sit down to enjoy a ploughman's lunch. In the afternoon, we explore the romantic, moated, red brick Tudor mansion of Kentwell Hall. Set in a tranquil parkland, the house and extensive gardens are a joy to explore.B, D
We begin our journey home following a leisurely breakfast and take a stop for free time in Bury St Edmunds. We arrive back home early evening.
