We explore the historic city of Edinburgh and discover attractions in the beautiful Scottish Borders, with one of the highlights being a scenic rail journey through the stunning landscapes of the beautiful Borders.

Day One

We make the journey to our hotel in Peebles with a stop and free time along the way. We'll be welcomed at the hotel with tea & coffee on arrival.

Day Two

This morning we enjoy a guided tour of majestic Thirlestane Castle, one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland with a beautiful fairytale exterior. Containing many fascinating details, we discover its grand state rooms, decorative ceilings, fine furnishings and family treasures. In the afternoon, we visit the magnificent ruin of Melrose Abbey, the final resting place of Robert the Bruce. We finish our day at Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott and one of Scotland's most fascinating attractions.

Day Three

Today we visit the award-winning New Lanark World Heritage Site and discover the fascinating history of this impressive cotton mill village. We visit the 'Annie McLeod Experience', see working textile machinery, the Millworkers' House, Robert Owen's House, the Roof Garden, the Village Store and Robert Owen's School. We have free time for lunch here before returning to Peebles, where we spend time at leisure.

Day Four

We spend today in Edinburgh with free time where we can visit the magnificent Edinburgh Castle (additional charges apply). Perched atop an extinct volcano, the 12th century castle overlooks the city and guards many of the nation's treasures, including the Scottish Crown Jewels. In the afternoon we make our way to Waverley railway station from where we enjoy a 1-hour scenic train journey to Tweedbank on the Borders Railway.

After enjoying breakfast on our final day we head home, with comfort stops on the journey.

This 16th century castle hotel has the real wow factor as you arrive.  Located in the Peebles countryside, just a short drive from the town, the historic building contains a modern and contemporary interior.  Rooms are traditional and comfortable, and the hotel boasts an informal restaurant, bar and lounge.  Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and mini-gym.
